Dear readers,
It is our pleasure to present you the new issue of IJRetina Volume 6 number 2 on September 2023. This issue have a lineup of articles on the topic of Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP). ROP can be a challenging thing to cover, over the last decade there have been major advances in our understanding and management including improved imaging technique, biomarkers in predicting risk of ROP, updated classification and the shifted paradigm of therapy where we have the option of anti-vascular endothelial growth factors (anti-VEGF).
In the era of Anti-VEGF agents and other pharmaceutical intravitreal injections, we have to be aware of their use because there are small risks of endophthalmitis. Although uncommon, it is a potentially devastating complication. One original article in this issue will cover on the matter.
Moving forward, artificial intelligence (AI) will continue to evolve and transform the field of medicine. Some studies showed the accuracy of over 90% with certain algorithms. However we still need to be alert on its potential risk of data breaches. In Ophthalmology, AI mostly used for Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) screening. The value of this novel diagnostic tools has to be carefully measured if we want to integrate it into our clinical practice. An article review is included to show the validity of AI in DR screening in Asia.
In addition, we have a number of interesting case reports, review article and original articles that we hope you find valuable.
We are extending our gratitude to our editorial board and reviewers for their contribution, advice and support troughout the process of publishing this journal.
Looking forward to your participation in the future issues.
